The FAA University Crime Prevention Training course focuses on best practices in crime prevention for multifamily properties. The course is designed to help apartment communities satisfy the specified training requirements related to premise liability under Florida law.

In response to the advocacy efforts of the Florida Apartment Association and others in the business community, the Florida legislature passed HB 837 in 2023. Once this bill was signed into law, it became Florida Statute 768.0706.

This section of state law was designed to help protect multifamily owners and operators from premises liability when a criminal act is committed at an apartment community. Under the law, a multifamily owner or operator who substantially implements specific safety and security measures will have a presumption against liability when a third party in/at an apartment community commits a criminal act.
